Bluff House

Perched atop a bluff in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, this century-old home underwent an extensive renovation. The project carefully balanced the preservation of the home’s historic character with the needs of a contemporary family, restoring its architectural integrity while thoughtfully updating the spaces for modern living. As part of the exterior restoration, the team worked with the Historical Society of Westerly to access vintage photographs of the original home. These images provided valuable insight and inspiration, helping guide the restoration and inform the design of the home’s exterior details. The project brought together a collaborative team including Sullivan Architecture, The Brooklyn Studio, Jeremiah Brent Design, Athena Calderone, and Christopher Thorp. Together, the team created a home that honors its historic roots while introducing a refined, contemporary approach to its interiors and amenities.

The renovation preserves the character and craftsmanship of this iconic Watch Hill property while creating a warm, highly functional home for modern family life. The project was featured in the September 2024 issue of Architectural Digest.
